Tara Oceans departed in September 2009 for a voyage of discovery throughout the oceans and seas of the world. Organized by the Tara Foundation, the goal of this expedition is to find answers to questions concerning climate change and to advance our knowledge of marine biodiversity. Over the next three years, members of this expedition will explore the ocean where they will study plankton to better understand its impact on the climate of our planet.

Through this expedition, Tara hopes to increase public awareness concerning the crucial role our oceans play in global warming. In conjunction with Tara Oceans' scientific partners, members of the expedition hope to reinforce the need for environmental awareness and raise the level of scientific understanding among the public, especially children.

To support this quest for knowledge, we will publish a semi-annual newspaper. The most recent edition can be downloaded by clicking on the link at the bottom of this page. In order to help you better understand the information that has come to light through the expedition, we have created the Tara Oceans Kit which can also be downloaded below. In it, you will find seven presentation panels on the expedition.*
